We are changing the world... One student at a time!

Ziegler Elementary School

Message From The Principal

To All Parents, Guardians, Caregivers, and Students,

Welcome to the 2013 – 2014 School Year!!!

As the Principal at The William H. Ziegler Elementary School, I am pleased to welcome all new and returning students to our school. At Ziegler, we are dedicated to provide an outstanding instructional program and a positive learning environment that will effectively meet the educational needs of all its students.

My vision, for Ziegler Elementary School, focuses on a learning environment where all learners, children and adults, grow and succeed. Where teachers value and accommodate diversity of cultures, languages, learning rates, and types of intelligence. I will provide the required leadership to insure that all staff members work to support our learners, and expect the very best, because we believe in them. This year I am proud to announce that we are a Leader In Me school. The Leader in Me paradigm sees that every child is capable, every child is a leader.

At Ziegler Elementary School, we recognize that all students deserve the opportunity to develop their potential in order to establish and grow as responsible citizens in our community.

Finally, families are recognized as necessary partners in the process of learning. At Ziegler, we support parents being involved at school and value their input in decision-making as we collectively work to create the very best learning opportunities for all of our children. Hope to see you soon!!!

All the Best.

Paul T. Spina
Principal

Eatiquette Comes To Ziegler

The School District of Philadelphia (SDP), Vetri Foundation for Children, and the Independence Blue Cross (IBC) Foundation will launch the Eatiquette Program — which equips schools to prepare and serve cooked from scratch nutritious meals to children, and educates students and parents on the importance of nutrition. Serving more than 500 students at Ziegler, Eatiquette is essential to the “Eat Right” component of the IBC Foundation’s Healthy Futures program, a $3 million initiative focused on improving child wellness in the Philadelphia region.

Eatiquette aims to transform a child’s lunch from the traditional cafeteria assembly line to an environment where children gather around round tables, pass plates of food to one another, and experience social interaction and communication. Family style eating creates an interactive environment where kids don’t just eat lunch, they dine. Teachers and adult volunteers model for students how to set a table, how to work together as a team, and how to try new foods.  We are honored and blessed to pilot this great program.
