Ziegler Elementary School

Message From The Principal

Welcome to the 2016 – 2017 School Year!!
Welcome our new Principal, Mr. Berretta!

 Dear Ziegler Community,

I am honored, humbled, and incredibly excited to begin work as the new principal of William H. Ziegler Elementary.

Philadelphia is a world-class city, and every student and family in our city deserves a world-class school. The staff of Ziegler and I look forward to working with families and community members to make that a reality.

I’m passionate about building on the great things that are already happening at Ziegler and making every day a unique learning experience for every student. To that end, we’ll continue to help our students truly live the “7 habits of highly effective people” through the “Leader in Me” program. We’ll continue to hone our craft as educators to provide the best instruction for all students, and we’ll continue to work with our families and community members to make Ziegler Elementary a world-class school.

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year. I look forward to meeting and greeting you all in just a few weeks on the first day of school, September 7, 2016.

All my best,

Robert A. Berretta

Eatiquette Comes To Ziegler

The School District of Philadelphia (SDP), Vetri Foundation for Children, and the Independence Blue Cross (IBC) Foundation will launch the Eatiquette Program — which equips schools to prepare and serve cooked from scratch nutritious meals to children, and educates students and parents on the importance of nutrition. Serving more than 500 students at Ziegler, Eatiquette is essential to the “Eat Right” component of the IBC Foundation’s Healthy Futures program, a $3 million initiative focused on improving child wellness in the Philadelphia region.

Eatiquette aims to transform a child’s lunch from the traditional cafeteria assembly line to an environment where children gather around round tables, pass plates of food to one another, and experience social interaction and communication. Family style eating creates an interactive environment where kids don’t just eat lunch, they dine. Teachers and adult volunteers model for students how to set a table, how to work together as a team, and how to try new foods.  We are honored and blessed to pilot this great program.
