Welcome to George Washington Elementary, where our slogan is "Excellence Is The Standard". We are a Pre-K to 8th grade school which strives to build character, self-esteem, and self-confidence in all of our students. The curriculum, coupled with our extracurricular activities motivates our students to perform at their optimal level. There is a strong emphasis on the growth and sustainment of the strong partnership with the valuable stakeholders who have invested in the mission of George Washington Elementary. We strive to create an environment where each and every student is given the attention necessary to achieve her/his individual success.

George Washington Elementary is a learning community committed to prepare students for success by providing a safe and nurturing learning environment. Students will meet or exceed a performance level of proficiency through the implementation of the Common Core Standards. Students will be respectable, responsible, honest, problem solvers as they continue to improve their community.
Our School Our location has been providing education to the community for nearly 150 years. Originally started during the Civil War to provide for the children of the workers at the old Navy Yard, there has been learning go on here ever since.

Currently our enrollment is over 350 students, Pre K through 8th grade, including various Special Education Programs. Demographic information may be viewed by clicking on School Profile. Our outstanding attendance record can attest to a safe and healthy environment for both students and staff. We currently hold the highest attendance scores for students of all the elementary schools in the city and are among one of the highest for staff.
