Welcome back to all Students, Parents and Guardians,
We are looking forward to a wonderful and exciting 2016-2017 school year at Rhawnhurst!
Rhawnhurst Elementary is located at 7809 Castor Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia.
We are a Kindergarten through Grade 5 School with a current enrollment of 578 students. This includes an early childhood component—“Bright Futures Class”. Our students represent a diverse range of nationalities and speak over 27 languages.

IMPORTANT DATES & NEWS
The 2016-2017 school year has begun!!! I look forward to continuing my eleventh year as principal of Rhawnhurst Elementary School. The month of August has already been a busy one as we prepare for school opening. I am looking forward to your continued support to assist in various ways throughout the school year. The main office will be closed daily from 11:30pm-12:30pm to provide a lunch break for the school secretary. There will be no entering or exiting the building during this time. Thank you for understanding.
The first day of school begins on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 for grades 1-5 and The Bright Futures Program. Students should report by 8:25 AM outside in the schoolyard to their last year teacher in the designated line up station. (In the event of inclement weather, grades 1-3 would report to the auditorium; grades 4 & 5 would report to the gym.) New students and Transfers should gather near the cafeteria entrance where a school representative will be posted to meet your child(ren).
Kindergarten students report on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 9:00am (This time is for the first day only!!) in the Auditorium. (Regular school hours will be 8:25am-3:00pm.) In order to facilitate a smooth beginning and positive school experience for our youngest learners, I am asking that parents/guardians cooperate with the following procedures:
· Take your child(ren) to their teacher in the auditorium
· Give them a kiss or hug and an encouraging word to start their first day
· Exit the auditorium following the principal’s opening greeting and announcements

September 15, 2016- Back To School Night-
5:30pm to 7:00pm
September 30, 2016- No Students-
October 3 & 4, 2016- Rosh Hashanah
October 12, 2016- Yom Kippur
Please be reminded of the updated changes in our mandated uniform policy are as follows:
Boys—navy shorts or long pants, light blue shirts (polo or buttoned)
Girls—navy skirts/pants, light blue shirts (polo or buttoned)
SHOES: Only Black closed shoes or Black sneakers are permitted!!
Reminder we will continue to use the Admission/Dismissal Policy from previous years. The PARENT ZONE Cones will be lined up in the schoolyard to ensure students safety. Thank you for your compliance with this initiative.
