Penn Treaty Middle School

Our Vision

At Penn Treaty we strive to create an environment where learning is the top priority of all our students and teachers.  We are trying to instill the value of education in our students so that they may become life long learners.  When children value education they continue their education and go on to become productive members of society.  It is our goal that all of our students love learning enough to want to continue through college.

Our Mission

Penn Treaty School is dedicated to building an educational program for students who are motivated to achieve, committed to life-long learning and solving problems, and who show respect for themselves and others.

School Profile

Penn Treaty Middle School is located in the historic Fishtown section of Philadelphia. The school was built in 1927 and houses approximately 700 students in grades 6-12. Most of our students do not live in the immediate neighborhood and, consequently, all are provided with bus service.

Students attending Penn Treaty come predominantly from Moffet, Hackett, Brown, and Sheridan Elementary Schools. As a Philadelphia-Edison partnership school, Penn Treaty Middle School is arranged into three houses. The purpose of these houses is to allow teachers and students to work within smaller group settings in the larger school. The house is led by a House Instructional Leader (HIL) who also serves on the school leadership team. House teams have two meetings a week to focus on professional development designed especially for the needs of their house.

The curriculum programs used at Penn Treaty support the Edison design. Through the Philadelphia-Edison partnership, staff members have participated in numerous professional development sessions offered by both the school district and Edison Schools.
