“Strong Minds, Strong Bodies, Strong Leaders”

MYA - Middle Years Alternative

The New Online Application Process will open October 17 and close at 5pm December 12. Students will be selecting five Philadelphia Public High School Choices on the computer from home, or anywhere they have access to Internet. Go to www.philasd.org and click on the “student” window. Student ID number and a password from school are needed to access the application icon. Counselors and Teacher Advisors will issue the passwords. Parents and School Counselors will have access to view the student choices. Changes to their choices may be made until the final deadline on December 12.

7th grade transcripts- including final grades, attendance/lateness, PSSA Reading/Math scores, behavior grades, and teacher comments, will be downloaded by each school. All of these optional schools have set criteria that must be met to receive an approval. Some will have additional requirements such as a 1-2 page handwritten essay about why a student wants to attend a school and his/her future aspirations for college. Some may require an interview/audition. Some schools also select through a computerize lottery by the Office of Student Placement. Only your Neighborhood High School is free of criteria and required to accept you. Information on the various types of schools is available on the Philadelphia School District Webpage at www.philasd.org and in the Fall Guide of thenotebook.org

Everyone is encouraged to go to the High School Expo to get the latest information on the schools. It will take place 3-7pm, Friday, October 17 and 9-3pm, Saturday, October 18, at the Drexel University Armory, 33rd and Market Streets. Public, Charter, and some Parochial/Catholic Schools will be there. Please note that Charter, Private, and Parochial Schools each have their own individual separate applications. You must contact them directly. It is recommended that you do this as a safety or “back-up” plan, in addition to your 5 Philadelphia Public High School choices.

MYA invites parent and Guardians to come to a special evening High School Information Meeting here at the school on Tuesday, October 14, from 5-7pm.

Our Principal, Mrs. Campbell and School Counselor Mr. Hagan will provide information about schools, the application process, and answer your questions.
