To complete your summer math assignment you will complete the following scenerio:

Your family has won a new house in the Philadelphia Builder’s Sweepstakes Contest! You will become an interior decorator and will design your own room. As an interior decorator, you will need to examine the scale drawing in order to calculate the perimeter and area of your future room. Then you will need to choose products that you would like to design your room with.

Welcome to 6th grade! The book you will read over the summer is Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli (Harper Trophy, 1990). This novel includes some of the issues faced by many children and adults.  Maniac Magee discusses issues such as foster care, racism and adult literacy.  You may have experienced some of the issues presented in this novel or know someone who has.  I’m sure that you will enjoy reading this text in preparation for September.
