Dr. Bell-Chiles Welcomes all Parents and Students to the Lea Family
Message from Principal Dr. Lisa Bell-Chiles
The focus of all staff at Lea is to provide a high quality education. This mindset is evident from Pre-K through 8th Grade. Our educators are dedicated to provide an environment where children feel motivated to achieve their highest goals. We believe that every child has the potential for excellence.
The same approach used for our general population is applied to the Special Education, and English as a Second Language Learners. We feel whatever barriers a child has, none are insurmountable and all deserve the opportunities a great education affords.

WE WANT THIS YEAR TO BE GREAT
The Pennsylvania System of School Assessment, also known as PSSA, measures how well students have achieved in reading, mathematics, science and writing according to Pennsylvania’s world-class academic standards. By using these standards, educators, parents and administrators can evaluate their students’ strengths and weaknesses to increase students’ achievement scores. According to the federal No Child Left Behind Act, students must be 100% proficient in reading and math by 2014.
The federal No Child Left Behind Act also requires states to determine annually whether schools and districts in Pennsylvania make Adequate Yearly Progress, also known as AYP. The 2010-11 targets were 67% proficient or advanced in math and 72% proficient or advanced in reading.

AS A REMINDER FOR THE YEAR 2012
We want to re-emphasis the uniform policy:
K - 5th Khaki Pants, Jumper or Skirt & Navy Blue or White Shirt
NOTE: Belts required on all uniforms except Skirts and Jumpers
6th - 8th Navy Blue Pants, Jumper or Skirt & Yellow Shirt
NOTE: Belts required on all uniforms except Skirts and Jumpers

We feel that it is only respectful to the parents and students to explain our uniform policy. The paramount reason that we want to make sure students are dressed properly in a complete uniform, with shirts in pants, and belts, is to prepare them for a world where their appearance will determine the future success in a career. We feel that if a student looks good they will feel good about themselves and perform well in school.
When you interact in the outside world, someone's attire will determine the way you feel about them, so appearances are important. We shop at places which are appealing, and purchase services from those who give us a aura of professionalism. This is what we want to instill in our student body. This is an important time in their lives to educate them in how to present themselves. We are positive that our parents will help us in the goal of having not only a great performing student body, but also great looking students.
Students will be pulled from classrooms if they are not in uniform, and we will work together with their parents, and them as young adults, to develop a strategy to insure they have access to a proper uniform.
We thank you for your participation in this endeavor.
