The Office of Attendance and Truancy provides information, staff development, technical services, and direct and supportive services to the Regional Offices, schools, staff, students, parents, and community agencies to help improve attendance, account for students and meet compliance with compulsory school attendance laws.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

PROCEDURES

  • School begins at 8:00 AM and ends at 2:39 PM. Students are picked up and dismissed in the schoolyard on the line designated for their class.
  • Early Arrival

For safety reasons, pupils may not enter the building before 7:45 AM, unless they are participating in the  breakfast program.  If they are participating in the breakfast program, pupils may enter the building at 7:20 AM.  

  • Early Dismissal

If it becomes necessary for a pupil to leave the school premises before the end of the school day, he/she must be dismissed from the main office and escorted by an adult off of the premises. If any person other than a parent/guardian picks up the pupil, the pupil must have verifiable written permission from home. Early dismissals will not be granted after  2:15 PM. 

  • Inclement Weather
  • During inclement weather, the Office of the Superintendent  will decide whether or not schools will open. Announcements will be made by 6:00 AM on KYW–1060 AM and other radio stations. The school closing number for all Philadelphia Public Schools is 100.
  • If schools are open during inclement weather, grades K-3 will report directly to the LSH multi-purpose room. Grades 4-8 will report diectly to the auditorium in the main building.
