Francis Scott Key School "Links to Learning"

Message from the Principal

Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year!  We are off to a great start and the students look fabulous in our new school uniforms.  We look forward to working with all of our families this school year to ensure that our students are successful learners. Our purpose is to model a positive attitude towards learning, which incorporates active listening skills, appropriate behavior, and responsibility in an organized, pleasant, and inviting environment. Francis Scott Key Elementary students will eagerly participate in the journey of life long learning, developing into respectful and resourceful citizens.
This year our school’s goals are to increase the number of students that have ‘on target’ reading levels, increase the number of students who show proficiency on the Common Core State Standards Math skills at their grade level and to reduce the number of students who are late to school on a daily basis. In order to help us achieve these goals, please be sure that you send you child to school on time each day (8:30) in uniform (maroon shirts and navy blue bottoms) to ensure that they have access to consistent instruction on a daily basis. Together, we can inspire our children to reach for and attain success.
Key’s doors are always open and I invite you to come anytime to volunteer, visit, and talk. We appreciate all of your support and looking forward to working with you throughout the year!

School News

On Saturday, September 19, our community came together for a service day to beautify the entrance and schoolyard at Key.  As part of the 2015 Day of Caring, Vanguard and United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey provided a grant for paint and supplies. Over 40 volunteers from Vanguard and SEAMAAC joined Key teachers to create a welcoming entrance into the school with a fresh coat of bright paint and designs in a stars and stripes theme.  In the garden, volunteers cleaned and planted new fall flowers, donated by Lower Moyamensing Civic Association.  Finally, the active play areas in the schoolyard were repainted and decorated to improve the play and physical fitness space for students. To thank the volunteers for their time and service, neighborhood favorite Frangelli’s Bakery provided their famous doughnuts. Thank you to everyone who who helped make the day a great success!
