In October 2002, despite heavy downpours, more than 1,000 parents, teachers, students and neighbors from Mount Airy joined together to build a state-of-the-art playground to serve the children of the Houston Elementary School and the community.
Today, the Kid’s Kingdom Playground serves the imagination and creativity of nearly 500 children at the Houston School, as well as children from the surrounding neighborhood. The playground is an attractive, well-kept play area that:
- Offers unique intellectual and physical challenges, as well as a broad range of opportunities for exercise and fun;
- Provides the greatest possible safety for the children;
- Embodies the ideas of the children who will play there; and
- Is accessible to all children who want to play.

The Friends of Houston Playground
The Friends of the Houston Playground, the organization that is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and support of the playground, is participating in an ongoing effort to keep our community playground a safe place to play. If everyone who uses the playground contributes toward the safety and maintenance of the playground, we will continue to have a wonderful community asset. You may mail your contributions to the Friends of the Houston Playground, 6703 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19119
“HOW TO CONTRIBUTE”
In order to keep the playground a safe and enjoyable place, it is very important to fix damages on a daily basis. The Friends of the Houston Playground continue to raise funds for the maintenance of the playground equipment and management of the opening and closing of the playground on a daily basis. In addition, we would like to continue to enhance the playground environment with trees, shrubbery, and flowers to create a more park-like setting.
Donations are tax-deductible under federal 501 (c)3 guidelines,
