Andrew Hamilton is a K-8 School presently recruiting 5th grade students from the Southwest Region and throughout the School District of Philadelphia for 60 slots in the Achieving In Middle School Academic Advancement Program (AIMS). Students must be in the 5th grade applying to 6th grade. Students should have good grades, good attendance, and good behavior. Preference will be given to students in the Southwest Region.
Description
The AIMS program is a highly structured program that stresses strong academics. Children are admitted to the program in grade 6 and the same group attends through grade 8. The program provides 6, 7 and 8th grade students with the basic core curriculum and is enriched, enhanced and supplemented so that it serves the needs of a more academically advanced student population. It is designed to give students the skills needed for entrance into the special admission high schools in Philadelphia. The rigorous academic program qualifies many of the AIMS students for advanced placement in the more challenging high school courses. Many of the children are recruited by prestigious private schools.
