Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the New Year 2017! Our first five months have passed and we achieved a 94.5% student attendance rate. Congratulations & thank you for all your efforts to keep our children in school all day every day! Please see the latest news:

OUR NEXT SAC MEETING IS TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2017 AT 9:00 A.M. OUR SPECIAL GUESTS ARE THE TOWNWATCH SAFE CORRIDOR GROUP LED BY MR. MATEO & MR. SUMMERS. AT OUR FEBRUARY 21ST MEETING, THE TOWNWATCH WILL BE HERE TO HELP TRAIN US FOR SAFE CORRIDORS. WE NEED PARENTS TO HELP US KEEP A SAFE CORRIDOR AT ADMISSIONS AND DISMISSAL TIMES. 

THE SECOND MARKING PERIOD PARENT REPORT CARD CONFERENCES ARE WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 15,16, AND 17, FROM 1:00 TO 3:00 P.M. STUDENTS ARE DISMISSED AT 12:05 P.M. ON FEBRUARY 15, 16, AND 17TH. PRESIDENTS' DAY WEEKEND BEGINS ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18 AND LASTS THROUGH MONDAY , FEBRUARY 20TH. SCHOOL RESUMES ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21ST.

 

We will have another Picture Day in the spring for students to wear their dress clothes. We will also have a Spring Candy Sale. Please see Ms. Gerena for any details.

Thank you for your excellent support during the beginning of the 2016-17  school year. Your generous donation of classroom materials and supplies has helped make the school year start smoothly.  We achieved a 94.4% attendance rate through mid-January 2017, due in large part to your diligence in sending your children to school every day. The number of suspended students dropped to 27, down from 29 the previous year. Your parent and student survey participation for 2015-16 was our best ever!! Thank you again!

Now we have the challenge of sustaining a school year for 2016-17 that is stronger than 2015-16. STUDENTS WILL BE HAVING BREAKFAST AT 8:05 A.M. THIS YEAR.  They will enter at 8:05 a.m. for breakfast and go to the following areas:

Grade 3: Cafeteria

Grade 4: Gymnasium

Grade 5: Multi-Purpose Room

The teachers will meet the students everyday in the Cafeteria (3rd grade) or in the Multi-Purpose Room (5th grade). The fourth grade students will be brought to the teachers' classrooms everyday.

The dismissal will be the same as last year, with the Third Graders leaving from the Wyoming Exit West, and the Fourth/Fifth Graders leaving from the driveway exits. 

 Our Winter Concert was held on December 8th. Our young musicians, led by Mr. Cani & Mr. Stewart, gave a rousing performance that was enjoyed by all. Our next Benchmark Exams start on Wednesday, February 1st. Our students scored at or above the Network & School District averages on Benchmark I in math & reading.  It is important for the students to do their best on Benchmark II, as the results will help us better prepare them for the PSSA exams which occur in April 3 -7, 2017  for English Language Arts (Grades 3-4-5), and April 24- 28th for mathematics (grades 3-4-5). Science PSSA is from May 1st to May 5th for grade four only.  Please encourage all the students to read at least 20 minutes every night so they can "Read to Lead and Succeed."

 Congratulations to our Chess Club participants!. We had one team in first place and another in second place! They had a strong showing! The wonderful team was led by Ms. Wilkerson, Chess Club Sponsor. Our Art Club and Guitar Club are now in session after school. Please see Ms. Coff and Ms. Bailey for more details. Math Tutoring and FLASH (PSSA Prep classes) are also happening after school, along with football, basketball, and cheerleading. The Honors Club will meet on Wednesdays in the Philadelphia Free Library Wyoming Branch at 3:05 p.m.  Please ensure your child joins an after-school activity.

 Also, it is important to hear your voice. Please contact Ms. Gerena , our SISL, to join our School Advisory Council (SAC). Our next SAC /Parent meeting will be on Tuesday, February 21st at 9:00 a.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room. We will discuss our new school initiatives, including PA Association of Fine Arts (PAFA) and the Safe Corridors Program. Your attendance is very important to your child's success in school!

 Our student  attendance rate from 2015-16 was 93%. We must reach 95.6% to be at the best level for student success. If we can reach 97% on any given day, we will distribute super-duper pencils. Students can only miss eight days of school to reach the 95.6% attendance goal. Let's all come to school, every day, on-time and in uniform!

 Our website is full of  information you might need about Feltonville Intermediate, including the School Uniform Policy, Student Code of Conduct, Attendance Policy, and required school district forms. Our SISL, Ms. Gerena, is here to help you with the above matters.

Please remember, there is no  parking in the bus zone in front of our school. This area is for school buses, daycare buses and vans, and the SEPTA bus only. The Philadelphia Police Department has issued tickets for those vehicles parked in front during admissions and dismissal time.

 Also, we encourage you to schedule any appointments after or before  school hours so that your students are in school all day, everyday, in uniform and ready to learn. If there is an unavoidable appointment necessary, the person picking up the student must have a current and valid ID, and be on the emergency contact form. Everyone must submit the emergency contact form. If you have not yet done so, please ensure the form is submitted by Monday, FEBRUARY 20th.

 Our Faculty and Staff are ready to work with you and your child. We are all working hard on the delivery of our new curriculum engine scope and sequence, preparing for assessments, and remaining focused on our district outcomes of creating self directed learners, accountable citizens and effective communicators. Your assistance in our work is always appreciated. 

 

For the second marking period, report cards will be distributed on Tuesday, February 14th. The parent conferences are in the afternoon on February 15th, 16th, and 17th.

I am excited and honored to be your Principal and I am committed to helping your children succeed. I am available to help with any questions or concerns about your child's education. We had a successful "Walk for Education" and program on September 24th. At the January 7th Community meeting, we were awarded $500.00 for school supplies! Thank you to all who participated! At the January 31st School Progress Report Summit, we received the Peer Leader Award for School Climate, Attendance, and Parent Participation from Dr. Hite, our Superintendent, and Ms. Wilkerson, SRC Chair. Congratulations to all on these wonderful achievements!

Remember to have your children Read to Lead and Succeed for at least 20 minutes every night.  Research shows that if you read while they are reading, their fluency and ability to focus will increase by more than one grade level per year.
