Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2016-17 School Year! OUR FIRST SCHOOL DAY IS WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2016.
Thank you for your excellent support during the 2015-16 school year. We achieved a 93% attendance rate, due in large part to your diligence in sending your children to school every day. Our PSSA scores increased in math, putting us in the top five in the Network Seven. The number of suspended students dropped to 49, down from 66 the previous year. Your parent and student survey participation was our best ever!! Congratulations to Ms. Leva's Third Grade class for having over 70% student and 50% parent participation. Thank you again!
Now we have the challenge of starting the new school year in the same strong fashion that we ended 2015-16. OUR FIRST SCHOOL DAY IS WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER, 7, 2016. STUDENTS WILL BE HAVING BREAKFAST AT 8:05 A.M. THIS YEAR. On Day One they will enter at 8:05 a.m. for breakfast, to meet their teachers, and to receive their room assignments as follows:
Grade 3: Cafeteria
Grade 4: Gymnasium
Grade 5: Multi-Purpose Room
Starting on Thursday, September 8, and for everyday thereafter, students will enter at 8:05 a.m. as follows:
Grade 3 and 4: Cafeteria
Grade 5: Multi-Purpose Room
The teachers will meet the students everyday in the Cafeteria or in the Multi-Purpose Room. The students will come in every day at 8:05 a.m.
The dismissal will be the same as last year, with the Third Graders leaving from the Wyoming Exit West, and the Fourth/Fifth Graders leaving from the driveway exits.
Our Back to School Night is Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. More detailed information will be given in the calendar and the letters we send home. Please encourage all the students to read at least 20 minutes every night so they can lead and succeed.
Congratulations to our Reading Olympics participants!. We had one team in first place and another in second place! They read, and they succeeded! A wonderful picture of the winning teams, and sponsors/chaperones Ms. Erickson and Ms. Dawson is in the Images Section.
Also, it is important to hear your voice. Please contact Ms. Gerena , our SISL, to join our School Advisory Council (SAC). Our next parent meeting will be for a Title I review and will occur at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 29th in the Multi-Purpose Room, prior to Back to School Night. Your attendance is very important to your child's success in school!
Our student attendance rate from 2015-16 was 93%. We must reach 95.6% to be at the best level for student success. If we can reach 97% on any given day, we will distribute super-duper pencils. Students can only miss eight days of school to reach the 95.6% attendance goal. Let's all come to school, every day, on-time and in uniform!
Our website is full of information you might need about Feltonville Intermediate, including uniform policies, Student Code of Conduct, Attendance Policy and required school district forms. Our School Climate Manager, Mr. Rosado, and our SISL, Ms. Gerena, are here to help you with the above matters.
Please remember, the first school day of the new school year 2016-17 for students is Wednesday, September 7, 2016. Faculty and Staff reported on Wednesday, August 31, 2016.
Our Faculty and Staff are ready to work with you and your child. We are all working hard on the delivery of our new curriculum engine scope and sequence, preparing for assessments, and remaining focused on our district outcomes of creating self directed learners, accountable citizens and effective communicators. Your assistance in our work is always appreciated.
I am excited to be your Principal and I am committed to helping your children succeed. I am available to help with any questions or concerns about your child's education. Please join us on Saturday, September 24th, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. at the Vaird Boys and Girls Club at 4800 Whitaker Avenue for the First Annual Walk for Education to benefit our Feltonville and Olney Schools, including Feltonville Intermediate School. Much needed materials and supplies will be purchased by the donations you provide when you sponsor yourself and your child to be in the walk. Sponsor and participant forms will be available in the main office from Ms. Gerena and from Ms. Coates during the school day, starting on Wednesday September 7, 2016.
Remember to have your children Read to Lead and Succeed for at least 20 minutes every night. Research shows that if you read while they are reading, their fluency and ability to focus will increase by more than one grade level per year.
