Useful Tips for Parents

Please visit the District's Parent Page for additional resources.

Here are some tips parents can use to help your child be successful in school.

    • Be interested. - Make sure your child knows that his/her progress is important to you.

    • Discuss classes and set goals. - Help your child set realistic goals for each term. He/she will better understand your expectations.

    • Be sure to recognize their effort and improvement.

    • Be available to help, but keep in mind that it is your child's responsibility to get homework completed and to prepare for tests.

    • Listen. Talk to your child about what's happening in school and be a good listener.

    • Encouragement involvement. - Encourage your child to be involved in school activities.

    • Work with the school. - Know that teachers, counselors and principals are there to help your child get the best education possible.

Important "Don'ts

    - Don't nag about school or grades. Your child will tune you out.

    - Don't allow your child to miss school unless he/she is truly ill. You will send a message that school isn't important.

    - Don't criticize a teacher in front of your child. Your child will only lose respect for that teacher.

    - Don't make your child's failures (or successes) your own. Your child may see getting poor grades as a way to rebel.

    - Don't have expectations that are unrealistic. If your child knows that your expectations cannot be met, he/she may not even try.

Attendance and Lateness

Attendance Daily attendance in school is a requirement.  Teachers are required to report three  consecutive days of absence unless you notify the school by phone or in writing.  All absences require a note of explanation.  Court action will result as a result of excessive absences.  Students with excessive unexcused absences or lateness will be denied end of year activities.

Lateness Any student arriving after 8:15 a.m. is considered late.  Please consider that high schools use lateness as a reason NOT to accept students.  Excessive lateness will result in disciplinary action.

Early Dismissal Any child leaving the school building before the end of the school day must be signed out in the office by an authorized parent, guardian or designated emergency contact.
