Message from the Principal
Dear Disston Family,
It is with extreme pride and honor that I assume the position of Principal of the Hamilton Disston Elementary School. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share my enthusiasm about my recent appointment. I consider myself privileged to be joining a school community that gives top priority to student achievement, unparalleled dedication to quality instruction, commitment to worthwhile collaboration, and a genuine passion for the development of our young people.
As the new principal of Hamilton Disston Elementary School, my top priority is academic achievement, and school safety. It is my belief that all children can learn and deserve a quality education. To that end, I am committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure that all students reach their full potential. Disston is a special place because of its dynamic staff. All of the staff at Disston are highly qualified and committed to helping each of our students reach their full potential.
Communication between home and school is a key element in our school’s success. I would encourage all of you to take advantage of the many communication systems we have in place so that you may stay informed regarding school issues, events, and activities. Chief among them is our school website, which is accessible twenty-four hours a day at (www.philasd.org/schools/d/disston).
As we begin the school year, it is important that we continue to work together to provide our children with the most rigorous and challenging education possible. By working together, we can optimize the school experience for all students.
I commit to you that I will always have the utmost care for our students, provide a rigorous academic program, maintain high expectations and offer intervention and assistance.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or concerns.
Respectfully,
Gregory G. Shannon
Principal
