- Ms. Ann Johnson and Ms. Boyd are participants in the Need & Deed Program.
- Teacher, Sheila Walton, runs a program sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania called the Sparks Program. The program introduces students to math, science, computers and engineering with the hope that the students will develop an interest and consider those areas as a future career.
- Jay Cooke is renewing their annual Cooke Food Drive this holiday season. Students and staff will donate canned goods to help other. The canned goods will be donated to a local food bank.
- Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Philadelphia Charter will provide Thanksgiving Day Food Baskets to 10 Jay Cooke Families.
- Dr. Charles Paslay, author of
Highly Effective Writing, has been visiting the classrooms to model writing across the curriculum during our grade group meeting. Teachers from the various academic communities get to see Dr. Paslay implement his writing program with fidelity.
- Joshua Dow, a 7th grade student won first place in the Obama-Art Festival of Word, Song and Art. Joshua received an Spin Art Kit, key chain and a photograph of Barack Obama. Jonathan Carr won 4th place.
- Jay Cooke Elementary's Volleyball Team ended a successful season with a 4-4 record.
- Jay Cooke is in the process of forming a Chess Team.
- Our new music teacher, Ms. Beidler is in the process of developing a school Choir. We look forward to having the choir perform during our upcoming report card conferences.
- Jay Cooke's former City Champ of Boys Basketball new season beings Dec. 1, and the team is determined to repeat last year's accomplishment.
- St. Christopher's Ronald McDonald mobile bus has been at Jay Cooke Elementary on numerous occasions to attend to the dental needs of our students
-Philadelphia College of Optometry has been at Jay Cooke to conduct vision tests and provide eyeglasses for our students.
- Drexel University Nutrition Education is conducting ongoing workshops with our students regarding healthy eating choices.
- St. Christopher Hospital gave a classroom presentation titled," My Marvelous Mouth.
Middle School Computer Fair Participants

On February 26, 2008, Mrs. Walton's students participated in the Middle School Computer Fair at the SDP's Education Center at 440 North Broard. The students were excited to showcase their work with the best of the middle school's students.
