Lewis C. Cassidy

Welcome Message From Our Principal

I hope that you had a restful and enjoyable summer.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Ms. Deidre Bennett and I am the proud, new principal of Lewis C. Cassidy Academic Plus School. I would like to make you aware of our school vision and the opportunities that will be afforded to you and your child.

At Lewis C. Cassidy, we have the fundamental belief that all children can and must succeed. In partnership with students, parents, and other community stakeholders, we will provide a safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environment. We will encourage and empower students to meet the challenges of an ever-changing society by being lifelong learners and critical thinkers.

We will provide an environment that develops self-esteem and educational excellence.

Recognizing and respecting the diverse cultural and economic backgrounds of all our students, it is our responsibility to prepare an appropriate learning environment in which each student will achieve to their fullest social, emotional and academic potential.  It is our expectation that staff, students, parents and the community share this responsibility.

We know that “Parents Are Our Partners” and need your help and support in making this year and every year successful for your child.  We will create a rich, and varied experience in classrooms that accommodate different learning styles, build a cooperative link between home, school and community; and ensure that our resources, both material and human, support our core learning focus of: Literacy, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.

As we work to create an optimal learning environment for your child, we know that you will remind your child on a daily basis that they must follow all school rules and classroom rooms.  They MUST adhere to the Philadelphia School District’s Student Code of Conduct in order to have a successful year.  Cassidy will enforce all school district consequences when students do not follow the rules.  Cassidy will also encourage appropriate behaviors by acknowledging and rewarding students who follow the rules.

At Cassidy, the expectation of ALL students is that they:

  • BE RESPONSIBLE
  • BE RESPECTFUL
  • BE PEACEFUL
  • BE READY TO LEARN
  • BE A PROBLEM SOLVER
  • BE A POSITIVE LEADER

We have reviewed ALL of the classroom and school-wide rules with your child. Teachers and other school staff will contact you if your child is experiencing academic or behavioral difficulty. We also urge you to contact us if you have any questions or concerns about your child.

I know that working together, your child will have a great school year.

Respectfully,

Ms. Deidre Bennett, Principal

CASSIDY IS A KEYSTONE SCHOOL.

We are happy to announce that Cassidy School made AYP again last year for the second year in a row. As a result, we have been awarded the  Keystone Achievement Award from the Pennsylvania Department of Education for outstanding academic achievement, along with 92 other schools.

Our students and teachers worked hard to achieve this goal. We still have  much work to do in raising our Reading scores however, and PARENTS, we need your help. Please read with your child everyday and check to make sure that homework is done each night by your children. We need to work together to help our children achieve. Let's make it an even better year.

Cassidy's Sign Gets a Facelift

Cassidy's Sign

Cassidy 's sign had a facelift on Saturday, September 24, 2011, courtesy of Dean, the son of our Learning Support teacher, Mrs. Bloomingdale. He planted a garden and fixed our aging sign as part of his public service project from his scout troop. Way to go, Dean.

Great News! Cassidy Achieves!

Lewis C. Cassidy School is proud to announce that we have made considerable progress academically and continue to move forward in creasing the level of proficiency for all of our students.

Therefore, we are very proud to announce that we are no longer an Empowerment School and as of September 2011, Cassidy will resume teaching all areas of the curriculum without intensive interventions in Reading and Math. We could not have done this without the hard work of all of our students, teachers and staff.

Congratulations Team Cassidy!
