PSSA - On Time, On Task & On a Mission Contest Winners

Seven lucky Carnell students were the recipients of a new bike or other prizes in the Carnell PSSA Student Raffle, which took place during the recent PSSA testing period.

In order to enter, students needed to be at school on time wearing the school uniform and prepared to do their best. Students who met the raffle requirements plus demonstrated good school citizenship placed their name in a container each day. Winners were announced at the end of the day on Friday, April 8th

Computers for Youth Program

On Saturday, March 5 2011, Laura H. Carnell Elementary School hosted the Computers for Youth Program. Over one hundred sixth grade students and parents attended the event. Each family that participated in the program received a free computer designed as a Home Learning Center, which included educational software and internet support. Participating families took the computers home upon completion of the Computers for Youth Family Learning Workshop. Below is feedback that we received from some Carnell Elementary School parents regarding the Computers for Youth program:

"I just wanted to say thank you for our new computer. I really enjoyed the information they had about the computer. I am glad that we went because we learned a lot. My children really like the computer. I hope they will continue the program."

"I am so grateful to the school, the principals, and to all that made this program possible. I could not afford a computer on my own, but I can guarantee that we will use this computer to further my daughter's education."

"The Computers for Youth program provides a greater hope for my daughter to engage her via technology to enhance her education."

The Computers for Youth Take IT Home program is designed to improve children's learning environment at home and to strengthen the school-home connection. The Computers for Youth Program's innovative approach supports parents as learning partners, instills powerful school-home connections, and creates educational opportunities for the entire family.

The Computers for Youth Program currently works with schools and families in five cities across the country and has served more than 30,000 families. During the next two school years (2010-2012) Computers for Youth will directly serve more than 35,000 families.
