Dear Baldi Family,

I hope that you all are having a wonderful and relaxing summer. I am proud to introduce myself as the new principal of Baldi Middle School. I had the pleasure of visiting our school and meeting with students and staff in June. After this brief visit I walked away with a smile on my face and incredible optimism about the possibilities moving forward.


Over the course of my career in education, I have consistently worked to ensure that all kids in Philadelphia achieve their full potential. I’ve served as an educator in a variety of settings. Previously, I worked for the charter network KIPP as a teacher, department chair and principal fellow. And before that I worked as a high school special education and social studies teacher at John Bartram High School. This range of experience has taught me the importance of always leading with a student-centered focus. 


It is my privilege to become a member of the Baldi Family and to serve the community. I use the word ‘family’ because of the warm welcome and support I’ve already received. C.C.A. Baldi’s reputation and impact transcend the walls of the school. In only a short period of time I have come to recognize the rich tradition and importance of this school to the community it serves and across Philadelphia. It truly is a model middle school in our city, and this speaks to the hard work of our team and the dedication of our school’s families. 


I would also like to take this opportunity to recognize the work of all of you and the school leaders before me. It is evident when touring the building that there is a strong foundation for instruction, culture and excellence. Staff members demonstrate a dedication to doing what is in the best interest of student learning and parents are active invested members of the school community. I am thrilled about the possibilities this year and look forward to expanding on this work with each of you. Change can be challenging. I want to assure you that this transition will be thoughtful and responsible, and throughout, I plan to celebrate our successes while we strive to improve for the sake of our students and their learning.


My goal is to provide leadership that will support an instructional program designed to meet the needs of all of our students while preparing them for the rigors of high school and beyond.  In doing this work together, I will strive to provide opportunities for focused teacher collaboration around instruction, student voice and joy throughout our school community. Additionally, this transition provides an exciting opportunity for innovation and voice. I intend to meet with parents before the start of the school year and during the school year to get to know you better and to listen to your ideas for our school. I also envision working closely with our Home and School Association and forming a School Advisory Council to support our school community.


Let me end by saying that I am incredibly humbled by the opportunity to serve at Baldi Middle School. I look forward to working closely with parents, teachers, support staff and administration, all of whom have a critical role in supporting our children to become active learners and productive citizens. I am confident that together we can make the 2015-2016 school year a success.
