PLAYWORKS: (Grades K-8) This program provides a full-time coach that oversees recess for grades K-7 and afterschool programs for middle grades including non-competitive soccer, volleyball and basketball.
Philadelphia Reads (Grade 2) Each week the students will participate in a mentoring program through Philadelphia Reads Power Partner Program. Students, teachers and parent volunteers will travel to Dechert Law Firm at 2929 Arch St. via a school bus. While at Dechert, each student will be partnered with an adult mentor and be able to practice reading with their partner. The first graders will remain with their mentor through 3rd grade.
Philadelphia Zoo (Grade 2) Philadelphia Museum of Art – Art Speaks Program (Grade 4) Art Speaks is a museum visit program designed specifically for fourth-grade classrooms in Philadelphia public schools. The content is art and the wonderful ways we can learn about and respond to what artists create. The learning strategies are literacy based, and connect to The School District of Philadelphia’s fourth-grade language arts curriculum.
Temple University CRE Program (Grade 5) University of the Arts (All grades) Two ‘artists in residence’ from the University of the Arts will work with students in all grades with a focus on music and dance. The artists will provide a total of 70 hours of supplemental music and dance education with our students.
The Philadelphia Reading Olympics is a city-wide collaborative reading competition coordinated by PHILADELPHIA READS, the Free Library of Philadelphia, the School District of Philadelphia, and the City of Philadelphia. This program engages 4th through 8th graders from Philadelphia’s public, parochial, charter, independent and after school programs in a reading competition. In Spring 2010 – Bache-Martin received a 1st place ribbon!
