Each year, Transportation Services holds a school bus safety competition known as the Road-e-o. This gives our bus drivers a chance to demonstrate their driving abilities and judgment skills.   The event is held in early June at the Shallcross garage.

The competition has three sections:

  1. A written section which tests a driver's knowledge of rules, regulations, and traffic laws.
  2. A section that tests a driver's ability to "pre-trip" the bus and find hidden mechanical problems.
  3. A driving segment which tests a driver's ability to maneuver the bus through a variety of seemingly impossible situations.

The points of each section are added together, and the drivers with the highest number of points win. Prizes go to the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth place winners.

  • First Place Prize $1,000.00 Savings Bond
  • Second Place Prize $500.00 Savings Bond
  • Third Place Prize $200.00 Savings Bond
  • Fourth Place Prize $100.00 Savings Bond
  • Fifth Place Prize $50.00 Savings Bond

These prize amounts are supplemented by Local 1201.

The five winners will compete in the Pennsylvania State School Bus Road-e-o in State College, Pennsylvania.
