3.1 Modes of Transportation


3.1 Modes of Transportation

The School District provides transportation on a daily basis to eligible pupils who reside within the city limits of Philadelphia.  Service is provided by the District and its contractors using the following equipment:

I.  Yellow Bus Service

                       A. Capacity/Type of Vehicle

                                    1. 72 Passenger *

                                    2. 66 Passenger *  

                                    3. 48 Passenger *

                                    4. 36 Passenger *

                                    5. 18-24 Passenger *

                                    6. Lift Buses    **

* The numbers stipulated in paragraph I-A (1-5) pertain to elementary children placed three in a seat. Junior High and High School children are placed two in a seat.

  ** Lift bus service is provided to those children with special requirements. These buses can be modified to contain as many as eight (8) wheelchair stations. Ambulatory passengers may also be included, depending on the vehicle's capacity. 

II. Non-Yellow Bus Service
Non-Yellow Bus service is normally provided in instances where a school bus  would be impractical (e.g. economic reasons, stop inaccessibility or vehicle capacity).
III. School Transpass
School Transpasses are provided at no cost to students who meet the District’s eligibility requirements.
IV. Parental Reimbursement
Parents are paid to drive their children to school when no other service available.
