Public School Choice

Public School Choice

Public School Choice - Under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 ("NCLB"), a parent or guardian has the right to apply to transfer his or her student from a school that is in any level of school improvement to another School District of Philadelphia ("District") school, or a charter school, that has not been identified as needing improvement.  The District implements its NCLB School Choice process in the Spring for placement in the following Fall.  A second, smaller, NCLB School Choice program is implemented in the fall for schools just entering School Improvement I.  Furthermore, under NCLB, the District sets aside Title I dollars to pay for transportation for those students who are awarded a NCLB School Choice transfer.
