School Health ServicesSchool Health ServicesSchool Readiness, Mandated Screenings and ExamsStudents attending a public or non-public school are required to have screenings and exams, as indicated. School nurses and school nurse practitioners will do screenings, as needed. However, your primary health care providers are the best persons to do the exams since they can provide follow-up care. If you would like help in finding a family health care provider, a vision care provider, a dentist or an insurance provider, or you have other concerns about your child's health, please contact the school nurse. If you do not have insurance, you will be billed on a sliding scale based on your family size and income. Philadelphia school nurses are certified as educational specialists by the Commonwealth of Pennslvania. They must also be registered nurses (RN), have a bachelor's degree, and complete additional graduate level education in school nursing and school law.
