Community Engagement harnesses the collective vision, goals and energy of community members in planning and communicating decisions impacting schools, families and communities. Community Engagement advocates for the inclusion of all stakeholder voices in the decision-making process for sustaining, improving or reforming local schools. Community Engagement Stakeholders are; community groups, faith-based institutions, parent groups, businesses, colleges and universities, alumni associations, elected officials and others. Our ability to expertly leverage community resources will deliver a valuable resource to our students and families that will expedite our achievement of the goals detailed in “Imagine 2014,” the district’s strategic plan.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Community Outreach

• Host community meetings across the city to hear ideas and concerns.
• Intensify the methods of communication to reach a broad audience.
• Participate in community meetings, fairs, festivals, etc.
• Host community activities and meetings in the Education Center.

Community 360 Projects

• Coordinate community engagement across the school district.
• Ensure clear messaging to the community.
• Provide a unified voice from the school district to the community.
• Improve transparency to the community.

FAITH-BASED PARTNERSHIPS

• Adopt-A-School
• Congregations are encouraged to partner with local schools for secular support.
• Activities provided include mentoring, food, clothing, uniform drives and recreation. 
• Orientation sessions are provided for congregations. Some topics include legal guidelines, best practices and school protocols.

Business Career Exploration Program

• Introduce program to all elementary school students.
• Motivate young learners.
• Stimulate an interest in learning.
• Start long-term thought process in young students.
