ESOL Expo - Sharing instructional practices that work!

ESOL Expo Presentations

The purpose of this expo was to provide a platform for teachers to share and exchange instructional practices that have proven successful in teaching English Language Learners (ELLs).

OMPS understands that instruction of ELLs is a shared responsibility of all teachers. Sharing best practices in professional learning communities improves instruction. In Results Now (2006), Mike Schmoker states:

[In other countries] school leaders arrange for teams of teachers to meet regularly to create—to craft and refine—lessons and teaching units until they have the maximum impact on student learning. When a lesson works well, educators publish it (in books you can buy in convenience stores). Practitioners provide demonstration lessons for other teachers at “lesson fairs.” These fairs represent professional development at its best—conducted by professionals themselves (109-‐110).

All of the sessions at the ESOL Expo were developed and facilitated by current Philadelphia School District teachers.  Please continue to develop and share instructional strategies that support ELLs with members in your professional learning communities.
