Microsoft Software for use on District Computers

  • The SDP does not have, and has never had, a site licensefor any Microsoft product.
  • A license for MS Office is purchased with the purchase of each new computer. This procedure has been in place since March 2001. This means that the version of Microsoft software that your computer came with is the only version that may be installed on it unless another license is purchased for a new version.
  • Additional licenses or purchase of licenses for new versions of Microsoft products may be made under the district’s Microsoft Academic Select Agreement.
  • Our reseller is Softmart – contact Eric Hadler (see below). You must retain copies of purchase orders for Microsoft software as your only legal documentation (and proof of licensing) to install that software for as long as you wish to use the new licenses.
To purchase upgrades for versions on existing machines or to purchase additional licenses, please use the District's Microsoft Academic Select Agreement provider to obtain a quote. Note that only the current versions can be purchased, however, you can install instead an older version of the software instead of the newest version purchased.

Please keep a copy of your original Purchase Order for your software records. This serves as your license to install the Microsoft software under the District's current Academic Select Agreement as well as proof of purchase.

Microsoft Operating System and Apple Macintosh Intel-based hardware: Softmart has verified with Microsoft that the Windows operating system upgrade may be purchased for use on Macintosh Intel-based hardware under our Academic Select Agreement. Please follow the ordering procedures and pricing specified in Note #1 above, however, when requesting an OS CD, please specify whether you are purchasing for an Intel Core Duo processor (32 bit) or an Intel Core 2 Duo processor (64 bit).
