  1. Who can assign a Mobile Device Coordinator (MDC) and where does one go to assign a MDC?

In schools, a principal or vice-principal can assign a Mobile Device Coordinator. In administrative offices, administrators can assign a Mobile Device Coordinator.

On the Office of Educational Technology's website, find the Assign Mobile Device Coordinator link under Policies and Procedures to designate your MDC. See link below for easy access.

Click here to assign a Mobile Device Coordinator.

  2. Must the Mobile Device Coordinator be the school's TTL?
Your Mobile Device Coordinator (MDC) may also be your existing Technology Teacher Leader or it may be someone else in the building who can undertake the responsibility of purchasing and managing apps.
  3. Who is the best person to consult with before ordering iPads for schools?

As you begin to plan for the acquisition of iPads in your location, please consult with your Technology Integration Specialist, who will advise you on the most successful configurations for designated use within your building or office.

  4. If I'm ordering iPads for a school do I NEED to buy a sync station/computer and an iPad Power Sync cart?

If the school does not have a computer that can run the most current operating system to designate as a sync station then one must be purchased with the initial purchase of iPads.

To purchase iPads for the classroom, at least one iPad Power Sync cart must also be on record as being owned by the school to ensure security and the ability to register and set up the iPads.

  5. I want to order an iPad/s for administrators. Do I still need to designate a Sync Station (computer) and order an iPad Power Sync Cart?

The District is aware that administrators may wish to order an iPad for themselves, and up to 3 additional iPads for administrative staff, prior to obtaining multiple iPads for teacher and student use in their building. Principals are required to fill out the Mobile Device Coordinator form including designating a computer Sync Station for the school before ordering their first iPad. For more info on the Sync Station, see the iPad information page.

It is in the best interest of all schools to have at least one iPad Power Sync Station (cart) in their possession going forward. Principals have a choice of ordering this Power Sync Cart along with their initial administrative purchase of 4 or fewer iPads for themselves and their administrative staff, or, they may wait and order the Power Sync Cart along with the order of the 5th iPad for their school.

Please consult your Instructional Integration Specialist for ordering assistance.

  6. Do all School District of Philadelphia administrative web applications work on iPads?

There are School District of Philadelphia administrative web applications that do NOT work on an iPad e.g. Data Warehouse, Advantage Desktop, and Hummingbird. See  iPad & SDP Apps Document/PDF.
