Summary

7508—Transportation Mechanic

Under the supervision of the Transportation Mechanic Foreman, the Transportation Mechanic performs journeyman level mechanic's work servicing school buses, trucks, and other automotive equipment.  Duties include diagnosing and repairing mechanical defects in automotive equipment such as repairing and rebuilding brakes, ignition, and carburetor systems; overhauling transmissions and differentials; tuning motors; grinding valves; performing repair work on electrical motors, automotive accessories, and other equipment; making service calls for disabled vehicles, and towing to garages when necessary; and performing related work as required.

Position Requirements

1.  have education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth school grade;  in order to be considered for this position, you must  attach a copy of  the required  high school diploma  or ged certificate to your application.

                                                       and

2.  have three years of full time, paid, journeyman level experience in the repair of medium to heavy duty trucks and/or buses. In order to be considered for  this  position, you must provide details of such experience on your application.

                                                       And

3.  possess a valid "Class 7" Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Inspection Mechanic Certificate;

                                                       And

4.  possess a "Class A" commercial driver's license with the removal of the  air brake restriction, valid to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to and during tenure of appointment.

                                                       And

5.  currently possess a Pennsylvania "Class B" driver's license without the air brake restriction.
