SummaryLead Food Service Worker (Formerly Senior Food Service Worker) Under the direction of a Food Services District Supervisor, the Lead Food Service Worker performs work in the satellite food service operation in the School District. The Lead Food Service Worker orders, receives, stores, reconstitutes and distributes pre-packaged, prepared lunches at a school location, and may supervise a small crew of Food Service Aides engaged in the unpacking, heating and serving of these meals. The Lead Food Service Worker is also responsible for sanitary conditions and ay clean equipment, kitchen and serving areas. Important to the work are several record keeping functions related to School District policy and procedures and the regulations of the National School Lunch Program. These include reviewing student applications for meal categories; accounting for lunch tickets purchased and used; accounting of the number of meals served and the monies collected, and preparing a weekly operations report. Hiring Requirements All Candidates must present, at the time of hiring, A Valid Pennsylvania Criminal Record Check, a completed Pennsylvania Child Abuse Check, FBI Clearance, an approved physical. Candidates failing to present these documents will not be appointed. In the event this position is reannounced or put on continuous filing, candidates who wish to retake the examination may file a new application. However, they will not be allowed to retake the examination until at least 90 days after the date on which they took or had a review of the examination. (We will use the latest date in calculating the 90 days.) Scope of the Examination The written portion of the examination is designed to evaluate the candidate’s ability in the areas of arithmetical calculations and the preparation of reports.Also, the candidate’s knowledge of basic food service practices, sanitation and safety will be evaluated. Minimum required score: 70.00 Oral Examination Weight: 50% The oral portion of the examination is designed to evaluate the candidate knowledge of food service planning and coordination, and the use of equipment and safety and sanitation procedures. Also, the candidate's ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships will be evaluated. Placement on eligible lists will be determined by job status as of the date of the administration of the first portion of the examination.
Appointments to vacancies will be made, in rank order, beginning with the Departmental List. When the Departmental List is exhausted, vacancies will be filled from the Interdepartmental List. When the Interdepartmental List is exhausted, vacancies will be filled from the Open Competitive List. Eligible List and Appointment The names of those candidates who receive a final score of 70.00 or better in the examination will be placed on an eligible list for the position in score order. These names will be merged into any existing or subsequent eligible list for the position in score order. Candidates will be hired for position vacancies in score order from names on the eligible list at the time of hiring. If a certificate is required for this position, all candidates must present the original of the required certificate at the time of hiring. Failure to present any required documents will result in the candidate being passed over for hiring. If the hiring of a bilingual candidate best meets the needs of a school or work location, the School District of Philadelphia reserves the right to give priority to the hiring of bilingual candidates. Current School District of Philadelphia needs for bilingual appointments include applicants who speak fluent English and fluent Spanish, Vietnamese, Khmer, Chinese, or Russian.
