How to Get Working Papers (copy)

Once you have the promise of a job, follow these steps to receive working papers:

  1. Obtain an "Application for Employment Certificate" or "Transferable Work Permit" from one of the working papers offices or from the guidance office in your school. Or you can download the form below. You will need Adobe Acrobat to open the file.
  2. Have your prospective employer fill out Part "C".

  3. Have your physician fill out Part "D" verifying that you have had a physical that year.
    • NOTE: Physicals are no longer offered at working papers sites.
    • Please have your physical completed before you make your appointment for working papers.
  4. Bring the completed application to one of the working papers offices along with proof of age.
    • Acceptable documents include birth certificate, baptismal certificate, passport, driver's license, or school ID as long as the form of identification lists the date of birth.
  5. Applicant must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
    • If your parent or guardian is unable to attend, they may instead sign the application in the presence of a notary public and have the application notarized.
  6. Bring your materials to one of the working papers offices during the hours of operation listed.
PLEASE NOTE:
  • The applicant must be present for the issuance of working papers.
  • The new working papers sites do not have access to the older sites employment certification records. Therefore, if you were certified at Ben Franklin, Northeast, South Philadelphia, M.L. King, University City and Lincoln and lost the Employment Certificate Card, you will have to go through the entire process again to receive a new working papers card.
  • If the student has a yellow Employment Certificate Card that is less than a year old from the date issued and secures a new job, he/she must have a new application completed by the new employer only. Then he/she should bring the new application with the Employment Certificate Card to the working papers office. (You must provide a birth certificate, school id (if it has DOB on it), or any legal document with a DOB on it, if you are switching from a yellow card to a blue card).
