Welcome
The Division of Career and Technical Education, (CTE) runs on two tracks. One is providing services and resources to CTE programs within the schools and the other develops a longer-term plan to conform to PA Department Chapter 339 Guidelines and to provide the students with high quality programs that promote both academic rigor and industry relevance.
Academic rigor will provide students with the skills needed to develop highly complex, industry relevant skills. Mastery of these skills will be determined by students earning industry-recognized certifications as governed by Chapter 339. These certifications will provide graduates with documentation of their credentials and achievements and will help determine which programs are of sufficient quality. The number and percentage of students earning the industry-recognized certifications will be a quality control item.
We are using a portion of our Perkins funds to upgrade the skills of our teachers. These funds will result in teachers to earn industry-recognized certifications in the areas of Microsoft, OSHA and HAZMAT, ASE, PrintED, Web Design, and Culinary and Safe Serv.
We have made an effort to focus our resources on those schools and programs that are able to comply with the PA Department of Education’s Bureau of Career and Technical Education’s Chapter 339 guidelines for program approval. Each of these schools was given a dollar amount to develop a plan designed to upgrade their equipment and educational materials. We are hoping that this strategy will create high quality programs that will enable participants to earn industry-recognized certifications.
