Charter, Partnership and New Schools

Welcome to the Office of Charter, Partnership, & New Schools!

Welcome to the School District of Philadelphia Office of Charter, Partnerships, and New Schools (OCPNS). OCPNS is responsible for expanding and supporting high quality public school choice for Philadelphia students.

Charter Schools

The Charter School Office is the sole charter authorizer for the City of Philadelphia. The office assists the School Reform Commission and the School District of Philadelphia in meeting their legislative obligations under Act 22 of 1997.

Renaissance Schools

The Renaissance Schools Initiative provides an opportunity for school communities to rally around the transformation of their neighborhood school in partnership with organizations and individuals who can bring dramatic improvements to chronically underperforming schools. The Renaissance Schools initiative is highlighted in the School District's "Imagine 2014" strategic plan and is based on the belief that the School District has chronically underperforming schools that are not serving the needs of students and families, and that these schools need fundamental change that facilitates a transformation of the learning environment.

Partnership Schools

OCPNS works in partnership with individuals and organizations that bring expertise and effective educational programs to Philadelphia public schools. These partnerships reflect innovative approaches to supporting school success and create new opportunities for educators to work within and across Philadelphia schools.

Promoting Excellence in Philadelphia Schools Project

Promoting Excellence in Philadelphia Schools-Philly TAP is advancing school quality by supporting and developing good teaching and, ultimately, improving student achievement. Philly TAP is based on the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching's (NIET) proven TAP model. The system encompasses performance based compensation, classroom observations, job-embedded professional development and school-based career opportunities for teachers and principals.
