Project 720 is the Pennsylvania Department of Education high school reform initiative. The name is derived from the number of days a student is required to spend (minimum of 180 days times 4 years) in high school from the beginning of 9th grade to the end of 12th grade. There are six Philadelphia School District high schools participating in the Project 720 grant.

Four Strategies

Project 720 schools are required to implement four strategies for graduating highly prepared students:
  • All students will take a challenging curriculum in reading, writing, science and math
  • Improving the learning environment to make better use of time to increase classroom instruction
  • Improving student advising services by transforming guidance counseling and career advisory
services, and developing re-engagement strategies for out-of school youth
  • Strengthening the pathway from high school to postsecondary success
