What is GIS?
A geographic information system (GIS) integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information. This data could be points (students, schools), lines (streets, railroads) and polygons (school feeder areas, regions, city districts)
GIS is used by the District in two major facets, analysis and maps. GIS provides an efficient method for performing analysis and greatly assists in a data driven decision-making process. It is also a very valuable tool in generating maps to visually show our different aspect of our District..
GIS allows us to view, understand, question, interpret, and visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports, and charts.
A GIS helps you answer questions and solve problems by looking at your data in a way that is quickly understood and easily shared.
