Our goal for this year is that every eligible school will participate in intramurals
Eligibility Criteria for Intramurals:
- Have students in your building that are in Grades 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and/or 12
- Create in-house academic, behavior, and attendance criteria
Program Specifics for Intramurals:
Schools with Middle Grades receive EC hours from the Office of Athletics:
- Promise Academy schools receive 60 total hours
- Schools that could not participate in 2009-2010 receive 40 hours
- Schools that participated in 2009-2010 (again, thank you!) receive 30 hours
High Schools receive EC hours from the Office of Athletics:
- Promise Academy schools receive 60 total hours
- Schools with fewer than 6 interscholastic teams receive 40 hours
- Schools with 6-11 interscholastic teams receive 30 hours
- Schools with 12-21 interscholastic teams receive 20 hours
- Schools with 22 or more interscholastic teams will receive 10 hours
How to Get Started on Your Intramural Program:
- Determine within your building how you will divide the hours. Survey students for interest, staff for expertise, and facilities for a match of interest, expertise, and facilities. You can have as many or as few programs as you wish within the allotted hours, but we ask you to please include at least one non-traditional sport in your intramural program. A complete list of sports and partner organizations that can help get the program started in your building is listed below.
- Advertise the positions within your building for at least five days. Begin a student sign-up process for each sport (roster template is included as we will compare academic success of participants to non-participants). We will provide links to websites that have great instructional information on setting up practices, skill development, conditioning, competitions, and culminating events.
- Register your sport here
- At the conclusion of each program, please fax daily attendance records, pay sheets, and the Program Evaluation Form (also available on this site).
- Please let us know anything we can do to assist you with your efforts to provide quality intramurals in your building.
