As a commitment to improving education for our children, the School District of Philadelphia’s Office of Accountability has developed School Annual Reports. Th e purpose of these reports is to create consistent performance measures for our schools that is publicly transparent. In addition to reporting on schools, the performance of regional and central administrative offi ces will also be measured.

How do the Annual Reports work?

• Using student, teacher, and school

data from various sources, baseline data was established.
• From the baseline data, target goals were developed for each school.
• Each year data will be compared to the previous year’s baseline to measure improvement and compare schools.
• Schools will meet the target, miss the target but increased from their baseline, or miss the target.
• Depending on the grade levels within a school, the report may be different. Currently there are two types of reports;
one for High Schools and one for schools that serve grades 8 and lower.

What is on the Annual Reports?

Schools are rated on their performance in four different categories:
• Student Achievement: measures academic performance through student report card marks and PSSA test scores.
• School Operations: measures the school’s ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
• Community Satisfaction: measures student, teacher, and parent satisfaction with the school through surveys.
• School-Selected Indicators: measures progress on goals that the school has selected to work toward improving.
By looking at schools in this way, the public will be provided with a more comprehensive report on the progress of schools within the School District of Philadelphia.

The Parent Guide to the School Annual Reports provides a brief overview of what each performance category and target includes. For more information on how data was calculated, please see the Complete Guide to the School Annual Reports.
